Spiritual Direction

What Spiritual Direction Is
– A confidential, one-on-one companionship that creates space to notice where the sacred is already present in your everyday life — your joys, struggles, questions, and transitions.
– A practice of deep listening, rooted in compassion and non-judgment, that uses conversation, silence, prayer, and reflection to help you pay attention to what’s stirring beneath the surface.
– An ongoing relationship, typically meeting monthly, that unfolds gradually over time rather than wrapping up in a single session.
– Open to anyone, regardless of faith background or tradition — the focus is on your own lived experience, not a particular set of beliefs.

What Spiritual Direction Is Not
– It’s not therapy or counseling. A spiritual director isn’t trained to diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Many people find real value in having both a therapist and a spiritual director at the same time, for different kinds of support.
– It’s not religious instruction. A director won’t hand you a doctrine to follow or grade how well you’re practicing your faith. The conversation starts with your own experience, not a curriculum.
– It’s not advice-giving or problem-solving. Rather than offering solutions or strategy, a director listens and asks questions that help you find your own clarity.
– It’s not a quick fix. Like most things worth doing, it tends to unfold gradually, session by session, rather than producing fast results.
